She & Him are set to release the festival themed ‘A Very She & Him Christmas’ album on November 21st.
It’s not that time of year already is it? With the last of the summer sun departing behind the clouds shops across the UK reach for the tinsel, as the countdown towards December 25th begins.
She & Him – Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward – aren’t immune to the festive bug. The duo released their second album last year, before deciding to try something a little different.
With busy solo careers to contend with, She & Him dropped into the studio every now and then to focus on Christmas songs. Working on Los Angeles and New York, the coast to coast adventure was completed without the faintest hint of sleigh bells.
Choosing a batch of classics close to their heart, the pair attempted to reinvent some familiar material. Set to be released on November 21st, ‘A Very She & Him Christmas’ matches Zooey Deschanel’s breathy tones against M. Ward’s guitar playing.
Domino are set to handle the release, which will be available on download and CD as well as a vinyl pressing. Containing 12 songs, ‘A Very She & Him Christmas’ is built around a few old favourites.
Opening with ‘The Christmas Waltz’ the album matches traditional favourites with some pop fare. ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ is given pride of place, while the Elvis Presley classic ‘Blue Christmas’ is re-worked.
Tackling ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ the album ends with ‘The Christmas Song’. Inspired by the great Christmas albums of the past – think Phil Spector, The Beach Boys, The Carpenters and more – this is an unusual salute to the festive season.
