Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder has agreed to become part of ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’.
Shaun Ryder has never really been part of this planet, so to see the Happy Mondays icon on a ‘reality’ television show will come as a shock to fans. Though probably not as much a shock as it was to the producers.
The baggy hero was rolled out as a member of the cast for the new series of ‘I’m A Celebrity’ yesterday (November 9th). Shaun Ryder has swapped touring for the jungle, where he will no doubt have to do a series of menial and fairly unpleasant tasks.
However the move is also a rehabilitation of sorts for the singer. Just a decade ago Shaun Ryder was suffering in near poverty in his native Manchester, with his royalties long since reduced to nothing.
Needing his entire set of teeth replaced, the singer was in a poor shape. Now, Shaun Ryder has worked with Gorillaz and released a bonkers yet brilliant solo album which recalled the twisted word play of his peak.
Taking part in ‘Most Haunted’ on ITV2 last year with the Happy Mondays, Shaun Ryder must have attracted attention from producers. Cult viewing, the show featured the baggy group locked up in a haunted mansion.
Genuinely hilarious, the show became a viral hit. It could be due to this that Shaun Ryder has been drafted into the jungle.
Producers had best beware, however. After a notorious appearance on TFI Friday with Black Grape, Shaun Ryder was almost chucked off Channel 4 for good. Repeatedly swearing, it is now written in the station’s constitution that Ryder cannot appear before 9pm at night.
Best watch the late night round up of ‘I’m A Celebrity’ then…
‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ kicks off later this week.
