Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings are set to release their new album 'Give The People What They Want' this summer.
Perfecting that whole nu-soul template almost a decade ago, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings must be pleased to see their creation tackle the globe. Spawning a new generation of R&B performers, the task they now face is staying ahead of the crowd.
It's one they clearly accept with some degree of relish. Taking enough time off the road to pen some fresh material, the band went back into the studio recently to complete their new album.
The results are almost here. Titled 'Give The People What They Want' – dig the righteous fervour – it drops via Dap Tone on August 26th.
Ahead of this, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings have placed new track 'Retreat!' online. Opening with some gently strummed guitar chords, it quickly evolves into a snappy beat which recalls those early Motown cuts when Diana Ross was still unknown and Marvin Gaye was still a drummer. Raw and irresistibly catchy, you can stream it below.
