Pogues singer to become gardener

Pogues singer Shane MacGowan is set to appear in a new reality TV programme.

Shane MacGowan is one of the most criminally mis-understood figures in British music. Often a figure of fun due to his dishevelled appearance and rampant alcoholism the singer is also one of the finest lyricists of his generation.

Emerging from the punk era The Pogues blended Irish music with rock energy, producing some sensational tracks. Third album 'If I Should Fall From Grace With God' is perhaps their high water mark, containing the perennial festive classic 'Fairytale Of New York'.

Reforming a few years ago the band's Christmas tours are the stuff of legend. Featuring stunning audience reactions The Pogues December journey across the nation is almost upon us again.

However before then Shane MacGowan is set to star in a forthcoming reality TV programme about growing vegetables. The singer now lives in Dublin, and has been recruited alongside girlfriend Victoria Mary Clarke for the show.

'Victoria and Shane Grow Their Own' follows the pair's adventures when they attempt to live a sustainable lifestyle through growing their own vegetables and rearing their own animals.

But it seems that all does not go according to plan. Clarke is not familiar with gardening techniques, and with Shane MacGowan apparently not keen to lend a hand the couple struggle at first with the concept.

'Victoria and Shane Grow Their Own' is due to be broadcast on RTÉ One on December 8th.
