A 1978 Sex Pistols gig flyer has been removed from auction at Christie’s Auction House after the possibility of it being fake was raised online.
The flyer advertises a show at Randys Rodeo in Texas in 1978 as part of their doomed tour of the American South which saw the disintegration of the band at the tour’s end at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco.
The flyer, created in Jamie Reid‘s Ransom Note style, included a section of the word ‘England’ written in the typeface Comic Sans, created by Microsoft in 1994, putting the authenticity of the flyer in doubt. It has since been removed from the Christie’s website.
