Long Beach rapper Seafood Sam has today announced the release of new album ‘Standing On Giant Shoulders’, out April 19th via forward-facing incubator drink sum wtr.
Last year Seafood Sam released his ‘Afros In The Wind’ project, a dreamy mesh of West Coast nostalgia and excess. His new album ushers in a new era for the rapper-singer who explores the potent power of familial and artistic legacy, no more evident than on lead single ‘Saylo’, a roller rink-discofied ode to fatherhood.
The album takes cues from Seafood Sam’s holy trinity, James Brown, Bobby Brown, and Miles Davis. Sam took the reins on singing, production, and arrangements, with an assist from Tom Kendall of the Long Beach group Soular System. It’s a brassy and bold mix of Philly Soul and funk, “hard-edged and lyrical enough for disciples of Larry June and Roc Marciano, but orchestral and melodic enough for fans of Anderson .Paak and H.E.R.”
