Scottish Michael Jackson Tribute

Unusual salute planned

Residents of the tiny Scottish town of Huntly are set to pay a unique tribute to Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson was a global megastar whose death caused millions to go into mourning. Since the iconic performer passed away earlier this year many tributes have been paid, with fans organising impromptu concerts in recognition of his life.

On what would have been Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday fans across the globe celebrated the singer with a series of special events. However one theme seemed to be more popular than the rest – ‘Thriller’.

The single was a massive hit on its release in 1983, and remains a Halloween party staple. Due to dominate the radio for the rest of the month, fans in Mexico City broke a world record recently for the largest ever performance of the ‘Thriller’ dance.

Fans in rural Scotland are now set to pay a more modest tribute to Michael Jackson. Huntly is a small town in Moray, perhaps better known for whiskey and its successful Highland League team than having an appreciation of Michael Jackson.

However soon Huntly is set to rock to the strains of ‘Thriller’. Over 100 residents are preparing to re-create the iconic video as part of an upcoming festival.

The various Huntly Hairst events start on October 31st, with the residents’ salute to Michael Jackson taking place on November 1st.

Directed by London maverick John Landis the ‘Thriller’ video helped Jackson’s album of the same name sell tens of millions of copies globally.
