Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson could be set to play Courtney Love in a new Kurt Cobain biopic.
Sixteen years after his death, Kurt Cobain remains a hugely important figure in American music. Nirvana’s back catalogue is enduringly popular, with the singer’s legacy inspiring a new generation of grunge influenced groups.
For some time there have been rumours regarding a possible movie based on his tragically short life. The film ‘End Days’ was loosely based on his final hours, but stopped short of naming Cobain as an inspiration.
With rumours mounting of a major production based on Kurt Cobain’s life, fans have begun speculating over who will play the Nirvana star. Meanwhile, some have suggested that Scarlett Johansson will play Courtney Love.
Speaking to MTV News the actress admitted to being a “big fan” of the Hole singer, but would not comment on any speculation linking her to the role. “I know that there is a script, that’s as much as I know about it,” she said.
“I’m a big fan of Courtney’s and I think she’s very, very talented. But I don’t know anything about the project.”
“It would be a challenge, definitely would be a challenge. I think the idea is interesting and intriguing, but I would have to really wrap my head around it.”
Unlike most actresses linked to the role, Scarlett Johansson has actual experience of the music industry. In 2009 the singer released ‘Break Up’ an album of Tom Waits covers which was surprisingly well received.
“I would love to do another album,” she continued. “The spirit has not moved me yet in that direction, but I would never put that idea out.”
