South London artist Sasha Keable has today shared her first single in three years, ‘Hold Up’.
A rousing number exacavating deep-rooted heartache, ‘Hold Up’, produced by Charlie Pitts and Kent Jerome, is furnished with all the classic soul markers but it’s Keable’s agile, soul-stirring voice that truly sticks the landing.
Keable says this of the track’s origins: “The new music came from a place of feeling powerless in everything else in life, the only place I felt safe and like I had control over the outcome was in the studio, so I just lived in there, I lived my life, and wrote songs about it everyday. I’ve found the joy in creating and a safe space within music I’ve never had before. It’s always felt so all or nothing and now I realise I’m just here to do what is best for me, to express myself through myself. I can’t do anymore than that.”
‘Hold Up’ is the first release since the EP Intermission, released in 2021, which included her hit collaboration with Jorja Smith, ‘Killing Me’. Keable’s new era commences today with music that has acted as a lifeline anchoring her to a sense of safety and positivity.
