Dancefloor shaking pop talent Santigold has begun work on her new album, with hip hop producer Pharrell Williams set to contribute.
Real name Santi White, the singer cut her teeth within the music industry working for the likes of Christina Aguilera. Keeping back material for herself, the singer took a childhood nickname from her love of gold earrings and launched herself into the world of pop.
Blending pop with dancefloor styles, Santigold’s debut album nodded back towards new wave groups whilst also showing a knowledge of modern bass driven styles and Jamaican dancehall music.

Since the album was released Santigold has toured heavily, but has also been working with the Beastie Boys. The singer is due to make a guest appearance on the band’s upcoming album.
A red hot live act, Santigold’s self titled debut spawned the singles ‘L.E.S. Artistes’ and ‘Creator’ as the singer assumed M.I.A.’s mantle as a world pop innovator.
The two talents share distinctive dress styles and even producers, with Diplo and Switch set to work on new albums by both M.I.A. and Santigold. Switch, of course, helmed last year’s stunning mixtape which included several blinding remixes of Santigold’s then unreleased album.
In addition to this, dance rap outfit Spank Rock are also due to appear on the forthcoming album, work on which is due to begin later this summer.
Santigold revealed in a new interview with Nylon magazine that she intends to record the album in August, although she has already begun working on material with producer Pharrell Williams.
“We went in the studio and he (Williams) was like, ‘I’ll just play the buckets’,” she said. “It was like, ‘Boom, ah, buh-doom, ah!’.”
Santigold named a number of influences on new material including Stax soul hero Otis Redding and 80s rapper Egyptian Lover.
