Santigold has revealed that her long awaited second album will be named ‘Master Of My Make-Believe’.
As Shakespeare once observed, what’s in a name? Since the release of her debut album, Santi White has adopted a new moniker and worked with everyone from the Beastie Boys to Julian Casablancas.
But that second album has remained frustratingly out of touch – until now…
Speaking to V Magazine, Santigold revealed that not only does she have a new album under wraps but it even has a name. “My record is called Master of My Make-Believe because I want it to be about creating your own reality. I have a song called “The Keepers”: “we’re the keepers, while we sleep in America our house is burning down.” It’s about how if we accept this then that’s what it is. We’ve got to fix it.”
Continuing, she revealed some of the guest collaborators on her second album. Switch appears, following work on Santigold’s debut album, while TV On The Radio producer Dave Sitek also works on one track.
“It was a very lonely process” she said. “I worked with Greg Kurstin on three songs, Switch on several songs, and Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio) on one song. I worked with Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) a bunch on writing and he played too.”
Finishing, Santigold revealed the mood of her second album. “I connect with music that makes me feel alive, or a sense of possibility. Music is powerful. If I go out and I’m watching a show and it’s really good, all I want to do is go home and work on music.”
“It’s a backhanded motivation when something is really good. I want my music to be that for people. I want it to be an initiator of something compelling, to set something in motion.”
Santigold is set to release her second album ‘Master Of My Make-Believe’ later this year.
