Reclusive techno imprint Sandwell District could be set to close after issuing a mysterious statement.
Techno is littered with mysterious collectives, labels whose public persona remains a blank slate. Over the past few years Sandwell District have re-invigorated this legacy, releasing a string of adventurous cuts.
Now it seems that the adventure is over. Posting a message on their blog, Sandwell District admitted that the future of the label is “uncertain”.
Claiming that “all vinyl artifacts have been de-commissioned” the message did allow for the occasional video installation. Ending with a cheerful “Stasis Is Death” you can read the message in full below:

As things stand, the final release on Sandwell District would be the RRose EP ‘Artificial Light’ (pictured).
Since posting the message, Sandwell District have posted what could well be a farewell mix. Shifting from the outer edges of techno to Throbbing Gristle, you can download the mix at their blog.
