Sandwell District have issued a further statement, explaining the collective’s decision to part company.
One of the most revered labels in techno, Sandwell District’s decision to cease operations dampened the New Year celebrations somewhat. John Mendez (Silent Servant), Peter Sutton (Female), David Sumner (Function) and Karl O’Connor (Regis) guided the label, whose reclusive stance only served to enhance the respect it was afforded by fans.
Issuing a short statement on December 30th, Sandwell District confirmed their decision to cease “audio communications”.
Now the collective have issued a short follow up statement to expand on the reasons behind their demise (via FACT). The statement reads as follows:
“We stopped Sandwell District the same way we started it — through intuition. It’s what anyone with a passion or half a brain would have done. It will never get old. No one will be able to impose their clean values on it. We will all continue to work together. Nothing has changed but everthing has shifted. It was a glorious death, not a mercy killing, as is so often the case in these situations.”
