When the title of new James Bond film Spectre was first announced, the band Spectres could be forgiven for feeling a little confused.
Deciding to turn this into a positive, the band quickly sculpted 'Spectre' – an alternative Bond theme, devoid of the bombast normally associated with the franchise.
Becoming a cult hit in its own right, the success of the track has seemingly irked Sam Smith's team. The BRIT Award winning singer has recorded the actual Bond theme, with his single 'Writing's On The Wall' due to be released on October 30th.
Now Spectres have shared a series of leaked emails, in which Sam Smith's management team place pressure on 6Music to stop playing Spectres' single as it is "disrupting the campaign".
The full email correspondence can be found on the band's Facebook page, introduced thus:
"We were wondering why the BBC had stopped playing our 'Spectre' track as soon as Sam Smith's version had dribbled out…well here we are."
"We got forwarded this email exchange yesterday, between the controller of Radio 6 and Sam Smith's manager. Sickening."

UPDATE:
It appears the story is a hoax. 6Music have just denied claims surrounding the 'email chain' while Sam Smith's team have offered the following statement:
“Bob Shennan did not exchange emails with anyone regarding this matter, the story is a hoax.”
