Sam Smith, Lady Gaga Star At The Oscars

Sam Smith, Lady Gaga and Dave Grohl all made special appearances at last night's Oscars ceremony.

The glitzy event always has a heavy music influence, and this year was no exception. Composer Ennio Morricone won Best Original Score for his work on The Hateful Eight, while Sam Smith swept away Best Original Song for his theme to Spectre.

It was the performances, though, which set tongues wagging. Lady Gaga performed 'Til It Happens to You' from The Hunting Ground, a documentary focussing on campus sexual assault.

The song was introduced by Vice President Joe Biden, and ended with Lady Gaga being joined by survivors of sexual assault.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd performed 'Earned It', while Sam Smith blazed through 'Writing's On The Wall'.

As is tradition, the Oscars 'In Memoriam' segment featured a musical accompaniment – with Dave Grohl performing The Beatles' 'Blackbird'.
