Scottish artist Sam Gellaitry has shared his new single ‘Introspective’ via Major Recordings.
Continuing to flesh out a charismatic vocal-led presence in his songs, ‘Introspective’ merges RnB-laced phraseology with a chimera of tonal shifts in production. Lyrically, Gellaitry processes a breakup through a four-act structure, moving between feelings of post-relationship yearning, resentment, despondency and resignation.
“‘Introspective’ is a story based on coming out of a relationship and the self evaluation that takes place and all the manifestations that follow”, Sam shares.
“Act one is voicing the sobering fact that the partnership clearly wasn’t meant to be. Act two (the chorus) is the self-reflection that occurs in bed thinking over everything and self-evaluation. Act three brings in jealousy from rumours of the past partner moving on to someone new. Act four is acknowledging that to be jealous is hypocritical since you know deep down that person wasn’t meant for you.”
Earlier this summer, Gellaitry dropped ‘MORE!’, his first single since the ‘UNDER THE ILLUSION‘ EP released last year – a follow-up to 2022 album, ‘VF VOL II‘ which featured ‘Picture In My Mind’ with PinkPantheress.
Later this year, Gellaitry will join Kaytranada on select US dates on The Timeless Tour. Following his sold-out Phonox Residency in London in June, he will also perform at Desert Air Music Festival in Palm Springs – his only live show of the year. Gellaitry will then return to the UK to play a recently announced headline DJ set at EartH Hall in London on October 19th.
