Saint Etienne have released their new single ‘Tonight’ – ending a seven year silence.
Saint Etienne are steeped in pop music. The band’s own output is loaded with allusions to other artists, but done in a way that is so witty and charming it becomes impossible to resist.
Dormant for some time, Saint Etienne recently ventured back into the studio. Working on a new album, the band released their first new single in seven years as a download last night (January 24th).
Available right now on the band’s website, a statement on the site reveals the following:
“Like the album it’s taken from, Tonight is all about the primal and atavistic pull that all good pop music exerts, about how the unadulterated thrill of a great band or gig can sometimes feel like a hotline straight to your heart.”
A more personal statement from Bob Stanley reads:
“Tonight is about the anticipation of going to see your favourite group. For some reason, I imagine this show is at the Forum in Kentish Town. The whole album is about the power of pop, how it affects and shapes your life.”
Produced by Xenomania’s Tim Powell and mixed by Richard X, you can download ‘Tonight’ HERE. Stream the single below…
