Saccades has shared breezy new single ‘Cross Street’.
The project is helmed by Nicholas Wood, perhaps best known to Clash readers as one-half of The KVB. His solo endeavours are sporadic but always enriching – new album ‘Land Of The Hearth’ is his third to date, and half-inches the title from a passage by Jonathon Meades.
Out on August 25th, the record is trailed by new single ‘Cross Street’ which alternates between gauzy, opaque songwriting and a hazy feast of synthetic sound. Reminiscent of yacht rock in places, that airy, gossamer feel is just right for summer.
Blessed with an astute melodic touch, Saccades pivots between astute reflection and a sweet retro-futurist vibe. He comments…
“This track was influenced by a mix of 70’s soft rock, disco and ambient electronica. The initial chords for the track came from playing epic pads on my ASM Hydrasynth, which I then adjusted to play on acoustic guitar and once I added the chorus, the song gradually moved into a laid-back disco groove.”
“The song tells the story of a person who can’t escape their old life. No matter how hard they try to leave it and the city they live in behind, they always end up falling back into their bad old ways. The sample on the intro is taken from the film ‘O Lucky Man’.”
Tune in now.
