American troubadour Ryan Adams is set to release his new album ‘Ashes & Fire’ on October 10th.
Ryan Adams has always veered towards the unpredictable, however few expected the American singer to give up music altogether. Yet that’s exactly what he did, tossing his acoustic guitar away and throwing his capo collection in the bin.
Focussing on his prose, the singer poured his energy into two books before taking up a role as a retro games reviewer. Stirring into life with a metal influenced album earlier this year, Ryan Adams has now confirmed the release of his first full solo release in some time.
‘Ashes & Fire’ is due to be released on October 10th, with the album set to be handled by PAX-AM. Adams’ own imprint, PAX-AM will work in conjunction with Columbia Records for the latest instalment of the singer’s discography.
Working in Los Angeles, Ryan Adams set up base in the Sunset Sound. Hugely experienced producer Glyn Johns sat at the helm, having previously worked with The Beatles, Bob Dylan and more.
In a neat twist, Glyn Johns’ son Ethan has previously worked with Ryan Adams and sat in the producer’s chair for ‘Heartbreaker’ and ‘Gold’ amongst others.
Ryan Adams has been joined by a number of guest musicians for ‘Ashes & Fire’ with organist Benmont Tench appearing throughout. Norah Jones takes charge of backing vocals throughout, with the music very much rooted in Adams’ trademark Americana.
At times containing country tinges, ‘Ashes & Fire’ marks the return of Ryan Adams after almost four years of diversions.
Mike Smith from Columbia Records was keen to talk up the singer’s place in the lineage of great-American-songwriters. “Ever since I heard ‘Dancing With The Woman At The Bar’ I have been in thrall to Ryan Adams. Here was an artist who you could follow to the ends of the earth and yet be continually surprised by. His solo career has generated so many joyous moments and stone cold classic albums.”
“When I joined Columbia Records back in 2006 I had this vision of being able to attract the kind of classic singer-songwriters to the label that had been such a vital part of the label’s history. Ryan to me is in the lineage of the very greatest artists that have worked with Columbia and I am thrilled to be releasing what is undeniably his finest album in ten years.”
