Newcastle songwriter Ruth Lyon has laid out plans for her new album ‘Poems & Non-Fiction’.
The artist won praise with vital performances at key showcase events SXSW and The Great Escape, before breezing past Glastonbury.
Continually creative, Ruth Lyon has become adept at traversing boundaries – she was the recipient of the 2024 Danny Award an annual, global award show that recognises the talents of musicians with disabilities.
New album ‘Poems & Non-Fiction’ was produced alongside John Parish, a revered figure who has worked with PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding and others.
Out on June 13th, she says…
“I have surprised myself with the raw honesty in these songs and I hope these stories inspire healing and growth…”
New single ‘Books’ gets to the core of some of the album’s themes, with Ruth’s literate indie-folk setting working with gentle alacrity.
She says…
“I was imagining my life as series of poems and non-fiction (which life really is, if you think about it) that at times has felt unreadable, overwhelming, impenetrable, senseless, unreal – a collection that I’ll never have time to read. I filmed the video in my house – it’s my safe place, somewhere I can inhabit my inner life, somewhere I feel free to imagine and write, rather than read, my own story.”
Tune in now.
