Rustie has stepped in to remix Bloc Party, adding some Future-minded bass weight to the post-punk four piece.
Bloc Party have always admitted a debt to electronic music. As far back as 'Silent Alarm' the group have experimented with digital instruments, allowing elements of programmed sound to filter into their music.
Returning with 'Four' last year, the band seemed to be returning to their guitar roots. However a new remix finds Bloc Party throwing themselves open to renewed interpretation.
It's a curious juxtaposition. Rustie has been termed a Maximalist producer for his lavish, bright-to-the-point-of-flourescence style of making music, something which stands in sharp contrast to Bloc Party's thin, wiry post-punk approach.
Entirely re-working 'Ratchet' the results are something which will no doubt irk the purists and delight everyone else. Which, let's face it, is the sign of a job well done…

Bloc Party are set to release new EP 'The Nextwave Sessions' on August 12th.
