Rudi Zygadlo is set to release his new EP ‘Achtung!’ through Planet Mu on September 19th.
The splintering of the dubstep scene is producing some startling innovations. A new generation of producers have grown up in an environment where bass saturation is the norm, allowing them to use dubstep as a canvas to work on.
Releasing his debut album last year, Rudi Zygadlo is a case in point. The Glaswegian producer is signed to Planet Mu, and combines bass weight with some electronic abstraction inspired by the likes of Autechre.
Continuing to work on fresh material, the producer is currently putting the finishing touches to his second album. The new LP from Rudi Zygadlo is set to drop later this year, but until then fans have an EP to placate them.
‘Achtung!’ is set to be released on September 19th, with each side representing a different aspect of his sound. Rudi Zygadlo has devoted Side A to his more introspective elements, including some live instrumentation.
Meanwhile, Side B is a more direct, beat driven affair which displays some serious dancefloor possibilities.
Running through all four tracks is a pop sensibility which contain a cheeky side. Title cut ‘Achtung!’ is a pastiche of electro, containing lyrics which explore the contradictions of youth culture and the pervasive effects of materialism.
‘The Deaf School’ meanwhile is all dark, brooding synths and lyrics which explore the end of a relationship. ‘Catharine’ is a soft, introspective work while ‘Variously Made Men’ marks another point of progression for the producer.
Announcing a number of live shows, Rudi Zygadlo is set to hook up with Modeselektor before touring with Solar Bears and Young Montana? throughout November.
