Rough Trade Doc to Air

Do It Yourself on BBC Four...

A special documentary marking 30 years of seminal indie sorts Rough Trade is to air this month on BBC Four.

Do It Yourself – The Story Of Rough Trade will go out on March 13, at 9pm.

The label and record stores have acted as barometers of the best new music around for three decades, with everyone from The Smiths to The Strokes coming aboard their good ship at one point or another.

The label began in 1978, and has released a succession of industry-illuminating albums, breaking a great number of today’s stars along the way. Now home to acts as big as Duffy (pictured), the label’s in as good a shape as it’s ever been.

Yet things were not always rosy – it wasn’t so long ago that the label actually went bust. Expect this time in its history to feature in Do It Yourself, which will see the likes of Jarvis Cocker and Johnny Marr wax lyrical on RT and its various operations.

That’s Friday March 13 at 9pm. Be there, or, y’know, watch it online at some other time.
