Roots Manuva is set to release his new album on September 6th, and with fantastic illustrations from legendary artist Tony McDermott (illustrations on Greensleeves classics by likes of Scientist, Mad Professor and famous “Carnival of Reggae” 12” sleeve), it’s a lot to look forward to. Previously stated ‘new’ album must stand corrected, as ‘Duppy Writer’ is largely a series of reworks by talented producer Wrong Tom (previous credits: work for Lynval Golding’s Pava International, Trojan Records and Hard – Fi).
The newly released album will cover all four of the Roots Manuva main albums, all reworked as though the original version – back to front so to speak. Tom visualised each of the tracks a decade behind, coming up with ‘Motion ’82’ in place of ‘Motion 5000’ and ‘Rebuff’ sees ‘Nuff Buff’ return as vintage digi dub.
Although, to fans, an album of reworkings may seem disappointing, hang tight! ‘Duppy Writer’ has been created with such skill and conviction that these reworked masterpieces will be as appealing as new works. Enjoy a little of the summer fun, whilst in anticipation of new material.
