Stooges guitarist laid to rest

Legendary garage rock guitarist Ron Asheton has been laid to rest in his hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan, it has been announced.

A founding member of The Stooges Ron Asheton's brutal guitar style inspired countless copyists influencing acts from The Sex Pistols to The White Stripes and beyond. His savage riffing echoes through rock history, from 'No Fun' to 'Down On The Street' the sheer physicality of his sound can rarely be beaten.

Asheton was found dead by police on January 16th, it is thought he died of a heart attack. In a statement released on January 16th Asheton's family said that a private memorial service was held on January 13th.

The statement added that anyone who wishes to pay tribute to the musician should do so by making a donation to the Human Society via its website.

Those donating should list 'Ron Asheton' in the 'Honoree Name' section of the electronic form.
