Legendary British blues-rockers The Rolling Stones have today announced that they will be switching labels. The band, who have been signed to EMI since 1992, will release their next album on Universal.
The one album deal is for the soundtrack to the Martin Scorsese tour movie “Shine A Light” – due out in April 2008. The film was shot during the group’s performance at New York’s Beacon Theatre and features cameos from music legends Buddy Guy and Jack White. Sadly, Christina Aguilera has also been rumoured to feature.
The move is the latest woe to beset EMI, who have in the past week announced 2000 redundancies and had to suffer the ignomony of having perhaps their biggest act – Robbie Williams – go on strike.
The “Shine A Light” soundtrack will be released around the world by Universal, with Polydor releasing the record in the UK.
