Rolling Stones Exhibition Planned

Unseen photos discovered

A number of unseen photos featuring The Rolling Stones are to go on display in a new exhibition in Scream Gallery, London.

There was no one quite like The Rolling Stones back in the early 70s. Rich beyond their wildest dreams, the band escaped the clutches of a major label to find artistic freedom.

Able to cultivate their image as the most decadent rock stars of all, the band matched their freewheeling image with some of the most inspiration music ever laid down on tape. No one in the Rolling Stones can actually remember much about the 70s, so it’s a good job photographers such as David Montgomery, Roberto Rabanne and Bob Gruen were on hand.

All three were amongst the forefront of photographers as the 70s began, capable of getting behind the scenes with some of the wildest rock stars ever seen. In addition to shooting the likes of Andy Warhol, Jean Shrimpton, Jimi Hendrix and more the trio were granted unprecedented access to The Rolling Stones.

A new exhibition in London’s Scream Gallery showcases the work of the three photographers, paying particular attention to a number of previously unseen shots of the Stones. Taken in 1971 as the band were recording their classic ‘Sticky Fingers’ the shots showcase a group coming to grips with almost unlimited freedom.

An innocent yet knowing Jagger is caught in the lens of Montgomery’s Hasselblad, his modesty saved by Warhol’s iconic album cover for ‘Sticky Fingers’. Montgomery was granted access to the band, capturing impromptu moments in previously unseen images taken in a Fish & Chip shop on the Kings Road, Chelsea.

Add to this previously unseen work from Roberto Rabanne and Bob Gruen, and the forthcoming exhibition at Scream Galery in London looks to be a stunning insight into a pivotal period in the career of The Rolling Stones.

‘The Rolling Stones: Against The Wall’ runs between May 13th – July 3rd.
