Róisín Murphy Prepares Italian Language EP

'Mi Senti' will be released on May 28th

Róisín Murphy is a singer.

Sure, she might sit loosely in the pop sphere, but Murphy has always be drawn to other areas, utilising techniques and styles outwith her comfort zone.

For her latest EP, Róisín Murphy has recorded material entirely in Italian – 'Mi Senti' will be released by the Vinyl Factory on May 28th.

Recorded over the past year, sessions took place at home in North London and Ibiza. Partner Sebastiano Properzi assisted throughout, alongside producer Eddy Stevens.

Much more than simply performing in Italian, the project pushed Murphy to the limit. "Quite apart from the language, in some of the songs I was on the edge of what my voice can do. For the Mina ones in particular [‘Ancora Ancora Ancora’ and ‘Non Credere’] there were tears and I almost walked away and gave up".

Containing five covers, 'Mi Senti' also utilises an original track. 'In Sintesi' (which translates to 'In Synthesis') was inspired by weeks of absorbing Italian songcraft. "'In Sintesi' came together very quickly and I think we all enjoyed the freedom of creating from scratch our own thing, after the weeks of work involved in getting the cover versions close to something we could be proud of. Knowing one's own recorded version has to stand up against the great music you are covering is a pressure you don't have when you write".

'Mi Senti' will be released on May 28th. Tracklisting:

Ancora Ancora Ancora
Pensiero Stupendo
Ancora Tu
In Sintesi
Non Credere
La Gatta
