Rod Stewart has revealed he turned down over $1 million to play a concert in Qatar.
The legendary singer’s tour schedule would cause many a younger artist to take a deep inhalation of breath – now 77 years old, he’s currently completing another batch of enormous UK concerts.
Recently popping past the Scottish Music Awards to raise money for Nordoff-Robbins, it seems Sir Rod hardly ever stops. However there is one offer that he simply couldn’t accept…
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Rod Stewart was asked about the World Cup in Qatar. A famed Celtic and Scotland fan, he was indignant in his response – he won’t be going, no matter the price.
Rod Stewart was offered $1 million to perform a concert in Qatar around 12 months ago, but turned it down, believing “it’s not right to go”.
During the interview he said:
“I was actually offered a lot of money, over $1m, to play there 15 months ago. I turned it down. It’s not right to go. And the Iranians should be out too for supplying arms.”
Rod Stewart isn’t letting this dampen his love of football, however – catching a recent Celtic game in Glasgow, he was spotted assisting in stewards cleaning the stadium afterwards, picking up rubbish left by fellow fans.
What a gent!

The news follows Dua Lipa’s decision to shut down rumours she would be performing at the World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar. Dismissing earlier speculation, instead Dua said she was looking forward “to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup.”
The World Cup opening ceremony kicks off this Sunday (November 20th).
