Hugely acclaimed songwriter Robert Wyatt has confirmed the re-issue of his compilation ‘His Greatest Misses’.
Originally the drummer with Soft Machine, Robert Wyatt’s solo career was born out of tragic circumstances. Falling from a window at a party, the singer was left paralysed from the waist down.
Fighting back to full health after a lengthy spell in hospital, the singer began a career which has resulted in some of the most deeply touching music to emerge from these isles.
Over the course of some thirty five years Robert Wyatt has released a huge array of material. Moving from free jazz to political hymns, the hugely influential singer’s output can seem bewildering on first exploration.
Re-issuing his entire back catalogue last year, Robert Wyatt is now set to release ‘His Greatest Hits’. Previously a Japanese only release, the album collects some of the highlights from his solo career onto one disc.
Originally a limited edition release, the album contains some seventeen tracks taken from throughout the singer’s back catalogue. Robert Wyatt said in a statement: “A thoughtful chap in Japan brought these tunes together as a sort of canter around my back catalogue: a reminder or introduction.”
“I’m grateful to Domino for giving it a run round the block over here. And blimey! My little drawings were done about sixty years ago . . how retrospective can you get?”
Available on June 7th, ‘His Greatest Misses’ mixes lesser known tracks with Robert Wyatt’s two hit singles – covers of ‘I’m A Believer’ and ‘Shipbuilding’.
