Gently ageing American singer Robert Pollard rolled back the years by attending a tribute night to his former band Guided By Voices, reports music blog Done Waiting.
Founded by one time English teacher Robert Pollard the group’s take on alt rock turned REM into the source of all inspiration and merged 60s songcraft with a very experimental techniques.
A veritable flood of releases followed, with Guided By Voices becoming hugely loved by fans of American rock music. Calling time on the project in 2005 Robert Pollard has continued his ever creative moods through several different groups.
Dropping by Columbus’s Treehouse recently the singer had the chance to assess his own legacy by listening to “a bunch of shitty bands play his own songs,” as the event’s organiser Kyle Sowash put it.
Watching several groups play Guided By Voices tracks, Robert Pollard apparently singled one out for praise. Watching The Whiles, Pollard hugged lead singer Joe Peppercorn saying: “You can play me in the Guided By Voices movie.”
