Rina Sawayama’s ‘Phantom’ Comes Straight From The Heart

Tune in now...

Rina Sawayama has shared her new single ‘Phantom’.

The groundbreaking pop icon will release her new album next month, with ‘Hold The Girl’ landing on September 16th. Broadening her sound still further, Rina absorbs fresh influences, while remaining firmly at the cutting edge.

A full tour is also in the works, including two nights in Glasgow at a show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on October 26th.

New single ‘Phantom’ is online now, and there’s a real late 90s vibe to both the song construction and the production. Channelling her inner LeAnn Rimes, ‘Phantom’ finds Rina laying her heart out on the page, with the lyric discussing her trait of people-pleasing – and how it can lead to people taking advantage of her.

A gorgeous vocal, Rina Sawayama’s empathetic streak enables her to illuminate aspects of your life that have hitherto remained dark. She comments…

“I realised as an adult that I have spent my whole life pleasing other people and not realising it – constantly pushing my boundaries and not realising the difference between what I wanted to do and what other people wanted from me. Through the lyrics in the verse I’m trying to tell this story and then in the choruses I’m morning the loss of my real self.”

Tune in now.
