Rigo Kamp makes his introduction with new double-single ‘Summer’ and ‘Morning Sun’.
The Abuja-born, Lagos-based singer-songwriter has been attracting glances in Nigeria’s close-knit creative community for a while now, working with some key players behind the scenes. Picking up on underground scenes, there’s also an urge to connect that borders on a pop openness.
Out now, new singles ‘Summer’ and ‘Morning Sun’ are an emphatic introduction, representing different facets of his work. Inspired by the boundary-breaking pop of Whitney Houston, Prince, and Mariah Carey, he’s also steeped in his Nigerian heritage, merging that sheen with the elasticity of King Sunny Ade and 2Face.
New single ‘Summer’ radiates with joy, the bumping chorus ideal for re-play value. Rigo comments…
“Even though Nigeria doesn’t have a summer, I think summer represents happiness. My summer is triumphing over the bad times. Despite all the NO’s, I only see YES’s every day until I make it. That’s Rigo.”
Meanwhile ‘Morning Sun’ finds balance, the subtlety allowing Rigo Kamp to express growth. He adds:
“This is a record about trust. You wake up every morning and you see the sun rise. You trust that it will rise again, you never have to worry. If you can find that trust in anyone or in any thing in life, that’s all you can really ask for.”
Tune in now.
