Ricky Wilson Breaks Rib

Tour to continue

Ricky Wilson, the bouncy frontman with Kaiser Chiefs has broken a rib after falling during a recent New York show.

Kaiser Chiefs are as British as they come. With a sound deeply indebted to groups such as Blur the band’s lyrics speak of everyday life in Blighty, while the Northern strains in the voice of singer Ricky Wilson are clearly evident.

However the band have been trying their hardest to break the United States. The band recently toured Stateside, but had to make do without keyboard player Peanut who had fallen ill. Fortunately, Peanut fell ill on the South American leg of the tour, meaning he had all of Brazil to recuperate in.

Since then, Kaiser Chiefs have returned to the UK for a number of dates before flying out to the United States in order to hook up with Green Day. Set to play a number of enormous dates with the superstar punks, the British band recently claimed that they would take a short break at the end of the year.

Ricky Wilson will be needing it. The ever energetic frontman was on typically jubilant form during a recent support slot at Madison Square Gardens, when he fell badly injuring himself in the process.

A statement from the band explained that “Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson fell jumping between the barrier and the stage, breaking a rib in the process whilst the band had been playing”.

However the band are set to continue their tour, with Ricky Wilson vowing to battle on. The statement added: “The rest of the shows will still go ahead as they criss-cross America – Ricky’s had treatment and decided the tour goes on”.

Bizarrely this is the third time that Ricky Wilson has injured himself on tour in North America. Previously, the singer has broke his ankle in Seattle before then suffering ankle ligament damage while at the Austin City Limits festival in September 2007.

Kaiser Chiefs are set to conclude their North American jaunt with an appearance art Chicago’s prestigious Lollapalooza event.
