XL boss looks back on collaboration
I'm New Here

XL Recordings founder Richard Russell is set to reminisce about his work with Gil Scott-Heron on a new 1Xtra show.

A beautiful finale to his outstanding career, 'I'm New Here' found Gil Scott-Heron experimenting with new sounds. Released on XL, the project was overseen by the label's founder Richard Russell who developed a close friendship with the songwriter.

Released to widespread acclaim, 'I'm New Here' was followed by Jamie xx's re-work before Gil Scott-Heron sadly passed away. Richard Russell has been invited to appear on Benji B's 1Xtra show, and reminisced about the working process behind that fateful album.

Set to air on Sunday (October 21st), a 20 minute portion of the interview has hit the web. It's all fairly fascinating stuff - Russell is a talented producer in his own right, while 'I'm New Here' remains a work of outstanding depth and beauty.

Listen to the interview below.
