Glasgow composer Richard Luke has shared powerful, slow-moving new piece 'Everything A Reason'.
The track is a preview from the composer's incoming second album, with the 'Glass Island' LP set to drop on April 12th through Canadian label Moderna.
A gorgeous modern classical suite, it's sharply defined minimalism is matched to a commitment towards raw sonic beauty.
Curious, then, to find that Richard's inspiration was a long-time Clash favourite – Glasgow-based artist Kathryn Joseph.
The name 'Glass Island' arose after Luke watched Kathryn Joseph play a show in Glasgow last year.
“It was one of the most visceral, engaging things I’ve ever seen when she turned around in amongst all these mirrors and lights and sang,” he explains. “I couldn’t stop thinking of the Glass Island thing, because that’s what it looked like in an abstract way.”
New song 'Everything A Reason' is online now, a beautiful preview of what lies in store on the full album. Scottish Chamber Orchestra violinist Amira Bedrush-McDonald returns as co-conspirator, and its gentle, un-rushed profile is powerful in its simplicity.
