Sheffield troubadour Richard Hawley is planning to release a new ocean-inspired EP ‘False Light From The Light’.
Richard Hawley doesn’t hang about. Perhaps it’s his Northern upbringing but where some songwriters rest on their laurels, touring the same album for several years the former Longpigs guitarist simply knuckles down and gets on with it.
Last year’s album ‘Truelove’s Gutter’ helped to introduce Richard Hawley to a wider audience. Touring constantly, the singer has been playing to larger and larger audiences as word spreads on his evocative songwriter.
Using landmarks in his native Sheffield for reference, Hawley’s music recalls the period before rock ‘n’ roll struck Britain. Influenced by sweeping ballads and rockabilly, his songwriting is equal parts nostalgic and ambitious.
Now Richard Hawley has confirmed details of a new EP. Following hot on the heels of his new album, the Sheffield singer has recorded several songs inspired by the sea.
‘False Light From The Land’ is due to be released on June 7th, with the EP available on ten inch vinyl and as a digital download. The new EP is led by ‘Remorse Code’ from last year’s album ‘Truelove’s Gutter’.
Alongside this is the previously unreleased track ‘The Storm’ while Richard Hawley also covers Hughie Jones’ ‘The Ellan Vannin Tragedy’ and the sea shanty ‘Shallow Brown’.
Confirming some dates for the summer, Richard Hawley is to pack up his tent and hit the festival trail including a special performance at Latitude in July.
