A track containing two minutes of silence for Remembrance Day is set to enter the charts.
Held each year on November 11th, Remembrance Day was initially designed to commemorate those killed in the First World War. However in recent years the ceremony has become a focal point to remember those killed in more recent conflicts, including the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
At 11am on Remembrance Day Britain stops to remember those who have given their lives in the armed forces. This year, the Royal British Legion have released a commemorative single – containing two minutes of silence.
A popular campaign has seen a new video filmed for the track, including appearances from high profile politicians and musicians.
“Rather than record a song, we felt the UK public would recognise the poignancy of silence and its clear association with remembrance,” said Chris Simpkins, director general of the Royal British Legion.
A Facebook page set up in support of the campaign has over 30,000 fans with the single on course to chart highly. According to the mid-week charts the single is set to enter the Top 20 when the full countdown is revealed.
However the single is facing tough competition. Rihanna and Take That are both wrestling for number one, which means that the Royal British Legion single may be overshadowed in terms of sales.

Bizarrely, this isn’t the only ‘silent single’ due to hit the charts. A campaign has been launched to get the John Cage track 4’33” to Christmas number one, ahead of whoever wins The X Factor.
