Red Hot Chili Peppers are to team up with director Kreayshawn on their new video.
The return of Red Hot Chili Peppers is big news. On hiatus since 2006, the Californian outfit remain one of the planet’s biggest guitar groups. Confirming their return via Twitter (where else?) preparations are now under way for their new album.
The band are due to release ‘I’m With You’ on August 30th, with the full tracklisting also being confirmed. Red Hot Chili Peppers have kept new material under wraps, with the new album their first since John Frusciante opted to leave the group.
New single ‘The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie’ is due to drop over the summer, and details of the video have emerged. Viral sensation Kreayshawn is reportedly in line to direct, with the premiere due shortly.
Issuing her ‘Gucci Gucci’ video earlier this year, Kreayshawn became a massive globe hit via the web. The Oakland rapper promptly signed an enormous deal with Columbia, leading to some suggestions that the stunt was staged.
Continuing to work on her own material, Kreayshawn has also directed videos for the likes of Bay Area rapper Lil B.
Now the rapper turned director is set to work with Red Hot Chili Peppers. MTV reports that the group have lined up the rapper to complete the promo for their new single ‘The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie’.
Meanwhile, bass player Flea has revealed that fans can expect from “poignant” moments on the new album. Red Hot Chili Peppers have recorded a tribute to the late West Coast punk icon Brendan Mullen.
“There are some beautiful, deep songs that can connect to people’s hearts,” he told Spin. “It’s much more poignant than our other records. Life and death is a major theme.”
