Continuing on their triumphant 2022 return, Red Hot Chili Peppers have shared the second single on their upcoming record ‘Return of The Dream Canteen’.

‘Eddie’ is a sombre tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen, who passed away in October 2020. Regarded as one of the greatest guitar players of all time, the Chili Peppers celebrate the 80s icon, blending heartfelt lyricism amongst melancholic composition which bleed into a guitar solo reminiscent of Van Halen himself.

In a press release, Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis says of tune, “Eddie Van Halen was a one of a kind. The day after his death Flea came into rehearsal with an emotional bassline. John, Chad and I started playing along and pretty soon with all our hearts, a song in his honour effortlessly unfolded”.

Lyrics that reflect on the life and legacy of Eddie Van Halen are made that more poignant as they weave through wistful basslines and guitar licks before rising into a firework display of guitar screams at the hands of John Frusciante.

The upcoming album, set to arrive October 14th, will be the second album released by the band this year and again has Rick Rubin on-board for production. Lead cut ‘Tippa My Tongue’ was released last month, displaying the signature funk-rock sound the Chili Peppers are known for – yet ‘Eddie’ showcases a different sound to the California rockers.
