Rebekka Louise Shares Profound Project ‘shame is an old friend’

An exploration of mental health...

Rebekka Louise explores her feelings on new project ‘shame is an old friend’.

The songwriter kicked off her work as a Master’s thesis project, before it became something more. A space for Rebekka Louise to be truly honest, the therapeutic aspects of her work ring out loud and clear, allowing her music to take on a cathartic quality.

Out now, ‘shame is an old friend’ is a potent eight-track project, with sessions moving between Rebekka’s bedroom set-up and London’s revered Tileyard Studios.

Exploring mental health, the songwriting switches between internal landscapes and external realities, with Rebekka’s fusion of analogue and digital mirroring this. She says:

“I wanted to challenge myself with the sound, experimenting with digital instruments to create something unique. It was incredibly fun and rewarding to push the boundaries of what I could do with synthetic sounds.”

Out now, the project opens with the potent ‘Twisted Affection’, with highlights including the moving ‘I wonder why’ and closer ‘it was beautiful’.

Rebekka adds…

“My aim was to explore all the different aspects of being someone who’s struggling and being in a relationship with someone who’s struggling. I wanted to express how it makes both parties feel and the complexities involved. Creating this album was a cathartic experience for me, helping me understand my own emotions and gain a deeper understanding of others.”
