Reading and Leeds festival have banned pineapples - in case fans of Glass Animals try to smuggle the fruit on-site.

The mammoth festival is almost upon us, with organisers sending out a list of banned items, objects fans should refrain from packing in their bags.

The list of items includes gas cannisters, paper lanterns, fireworks, and more, but one item on the list immediately raised eyebrows.

Yep, they've banned pineapples. Glass Animals fans often bring them to shows - a reference to the lyrics of 'Pork Soda' - with drummer Joe Seaward telling the BBC it would now be a "challenge" to get the fruit inside.

Anyone who wasn't bringing a pineapple definitely is now," he said. "It's fruitist. Watermelons are fine, but not pineapples?"

A spokesman for Reading and Leeds Festivals told the BBC: "Organisers were a little concerned about hundreds of pineapples turning up on site so decided to ask fans not to bring them along."

He added: "The tongue may be slightly in cheek on this one."
