Radiohead dropped by Jack White’s Third Man complex recently to record new material.
Radiohead’s every step is mulled over by countless fans. So when rumours begin circulating that the Oxford band have been recording with Jack White, you can bet that this information will be taken pretty seriously.
As it turns out, the rumours have some degree of substance. Chatting to 6Music recently, Jack White confirmed that Radiohead did indeed record in his Third Man studio – only he had no part to play.
“I don’t know how much to tell about” he admitted. “I didn’t play with them or produce it, but they came and recorded at Third Man, and I don’t know what else they want to be said about that so that’s probably all I can say!”
Currently mid-way through an international tour, Radiohead have been dropped new material into their set.
Over the past few days details of another Radiohead related project have emerged. The American composer Steve Reich has been working on a new composition, based on several of the band’s most iconic songs.
‘Radio Rewrite’ will open next year, with London Sinfonietta charged with performing the piece. Chatting with The Quietus, Steve Reich revealed that the composition is more inspired by rather than directly influenced by the band.
“It’s absolutely brilliant songwriting. I saw a black and white video of them rehearsing ‘Jigsaw Falling Into Place’ and what struck me was not only that it was a beautiful song, but that the band are so committed. There’s no showbiz, just musicians communicating very directly. There’s no fudging that. In both those songs, the chord sequences are very interesting. These are beautiful tunes and I can’t improve on them, so I’ve written my own piece”.
