Oxford giants Radiohead could be set to release a new EP, with a fan site claiming to have uncovered details of forthcoming material.
Radiohead last released a studio album in 2007, with the music industry busting ‘In Rainbows’. Breaking from the template for a globe-trotting act, the band released the album as a pay-what-you-like download.
Becoming an enormous success, it also helped that the record contained some of the group’s finest material in a decade. Nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, the album waltzed off with a Grammy after the physical release struck gold on both sides of the Atlantic.
Since then, little new material has been heard. Fans are anxious to catch a glimpse of a possible new album, with a recent set by Thom Yorke at the Latitude festival serving only to increase anticipation.
It took the death of Britain’s last veteran of the First World War to shake the band into action. Radiohead penned ‘Harry Patch’ as a tribute to the soldier, who fought in one of the bloodiest campaign’s in history.
A quiet and unassuming man, Patch’s death was mourned by the public as the final passing of a generation into the history books. Released as a free download, it was then followed by another track.
‘These Are My Twisted Words’ leaked onto the internet via the fan site At Ease, and although it has not been confirmed as a Radiohead track it sure as hell sounds like one. Now the site has gone on to claim that a new EP is due to be released next week.
At Ease claims that a weblink has emerged that leads to Radiohead’s merchandise store on the group’s official website. The possibility of a download has naturally led to comparisons with the band’s last album ‘In Rainbows’.
There has been no official confirmation of a new EP by Radiohead.
Radiohead are due to headline Reading and Leeds on August 28th – 30th.
