Radiohead Climate Plea

Thom Yorke urges fans to sign petition

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has published a new blog in which he urges fans to sign a climate change petition.

Radiohead are no strangers to political statements. 1997’s weighty tome ‘OK Computer’ boasted ‘Electioneering’ a track that took a side swipe at the modern political process, while Thom Yorke’s solo album ‘The Eraser’ was dominated by his passionate beliefs.

The band were no friends of George W Bush, allegedly naming their 2005 album ‘Hail To The Thief’ after spotting a placard bearing the slogan at an anti war rally. Lead singer Thom Yorke stepped back into the spotlight by urging fans to sign the Stop Global Warming petition.

In a blog posting on their ‘DEAD AIR SPACE’ site Yorke said:

“an online petition with over a million names.. including President Obama. currently there is talk of a climate change bill in the US similair to the one we have passed in the UK. thats a BIG deal. but i have been reading how the oil industry is investing millions of dollars in a PR campaign against it! how utterly dumbass is that? how do these people look their children in the eye?”

“in have now stepped down from todays soapbox. byebye”

Radiohead are already on better terms with Bush’s successor Barack Obama. Last year Thom Yorke released a remix of his 2006 solo song ‘Harrowdown Hill’ in celebration of Obama’s election victory.

Elsewhere on the blog Radiohead celebrated a Bank Holiday day off by publishing a list of office favourites. Containing left field rock, electronica and classical music it gives a hint of the influences running around the band’s head as they construct a follow up to the Grammy Award winning ‘In Rainbows’ album.
