Radiohead Celebrate 6Music Birthday

Plus - what they're listening to

Oxford giants Radiohead have published a new message wishing BBC 6Music a ‘Happy Birthday’.

Radiohead are one of the most influential and revered groups of their generation. From global warming to illegal downloading, the band’s opinion counts.

Which is perhaps why the BBC should watch their backs. Radiohead recently came out in favour of under fire station 6Music, arguing that it would be wrong to axe an outlet which provides such as potent role in British music.

Now the band have followed this with a special birthday message for 6Music. The station launched in 2002, and has gathered a loyal fan base. Will it celebrate many more birthdays? Time will tell…

“BBC 6 Music – 8 years old today” wrote Jonny Greenwood. “Something worth celebrating: I mean, when Chris Moyles and Ken Bruce aren’t for you – and Radios 1 and 2 strive to appeal to ever younger and older listeners – where else can you turn during the day?”

“Happy Birthday 6 Music, and all you other nerdy music lovers everywhere….now let’s fight for many happy returns.”

Elsewhere, Thom Yorke published a new blog detailing what Radiohead are listening to. Intriguing, the list is dominated by acts associated with Flying Lotus – including the new album by Ganja Sufi.

ClashMusic, of course, streamed ‘A Sufi And A Killer’ the week before release. Perhaps he heard it here first? We like to think so.

Thom Yorke’s latest Top Ten:

1. Twilight Speedball by Mos Def
2. Fancy Clown by Allah’s Reflection, Mavillain & Viktor Vaughn
3. Baiafro by The Gaslamp Killer
4. Exhibit C by Jay Electronica
5. Penny’s Confession by Ras G
6. Lose my Fuse by Muhsinah feat. Flying Lotus
7. MIA by MIA
8. Holidays by Gonjasufi
9. Itas important by Samiyam
10. Purify by Untold
