Scottish artist Rachel Sermanni has signalled her return with breathlessly beautiful new song 'What Can I Do'.
Taking time out to focus on her next move, the songwriter recently sealed off sessions on her next studio album.
'So It Turns' lands this summer, and it finds Rachel adding unsettling, visceral elements to her otherworldly folk-based aesthetic.
New single 'What Can I Do' offers a damaged sense of Americana, almost grunge-like in its exquisite darkness.
Trapped in a hopeless situation, Rachel's voice beams outward: "I feel so helpless I feel so blue..."
As percentage of the single's profits will be donated to Extinction Rebellion, with the songwriter commenting:
"I was lying on the floor just after Trump had been voted president, staring despairingly at the ceiling. There was also much on the news about refugees and the lack of an embrace we offer them. There was the looming Brexit vote too. In that moment I felt drawn to my mandolin to write, in a short sitting, 'What Can I Do'. Though it was three years ago, this song is fitting to the motions of now and perhaps more useful and relevant than before."
Tune in now.
