R.E.M. have outlined details of their 40 song retrospective ‘R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011’.
So that’s it. OVER. R.E.M. confirmed the news of their split with a simple three way statement, allowing each member of the group to pay their respects to a career which has lasted almost thirty years.
First defining them eclipsing the college rock scene, the band’s neo-Classicism was at odds with prevailing trends in American underground music. However R.E.M. found near instant critical acclaim, going on to release some seminal music.
Parting company after thirty years, news quickly broke of plans for a full scale retrospective. ‘R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011’ is due to be released on November 14th, containing forty tracks from the band’s entire back catalogue.
A few notes:
– The upcoming album gathers material from both IRS and Warners eras
– The LP contains material from each R.E.M. album
– All three band members have contributed to the sleevenotes
– R.E.M. have decided to include three brand new cuts (‘A Month of Saturdays’, ‘We All Go Back To Where We Belong’, and ‘Hallelujah’) as a final farewell
