Queen star Brian May has hailed stadium prog trio Muse claiming they are “extremely talented”.
A stadium filling rock band with massive guitar lines and wailing vocals. Brilliant, over the top and truly thrilling – but enough about Queen.
Muse have regularly been compared the the epic British rock veterans, with many obvious similarities. In a new interview however Queen guitarist Brian May has claimed he is flattered by any comparisons between the two bands.
Speaking to BBC News the guitarist turned astronomer revealed that he is a massive fan of Muse. “I love it, I think it’s great stuff” he said.
“I think they’re very good boys and extremely talented, and like us they have their tongue in cheek a lot of the time,” May revealed.
Muse released their new album ‘The Resistance’ recently. The band scored massive chart success, topping the run down in over a dozen countries around the world. Hitting number three on the Billboard charts, it seems that the band can still laugh at themselves.
In an interview last month drummer Dom Howard spoke about recording new track ‘United States Of Eurasia’. “I guess people have thought it sounds a bit like Queen, particularly that big chord and the big harmonies.”
“When we did that in the studio we laughed a lot because it was so uplifting. It’s a real chest out, hand in the air moment in the song.”
Brian May claimed he was flattered by any comparison to the Teignmouth trio. “They said they liked us and that we’ve been an influence, which is obviously nice for someone like me to hear,” said May.
“They are extraordinary musicians” he added. “Real virtuosos – much more than I am. I like the way they let their madness show through, always a good thing in an artist.”
