A public memorial is to be held for Lou Reed in New York.
Lou Reed's passing seemed to emphasise just how important his work, his voice had been. One of the driving forces behind The Velvet Underground, Reed's solo work continually veered between flirting with the mainstream and all out noise.
Through his contrariness, his unwillingness to play the game, Lou Reed seemed to gather an intensely loyal batch of fans. Recognising this, Lou Reed's family are set to host an open memorial for the singer in New York.
A notice on the songwriter's Facebook page reads:
"New York: Lou Reed at Lincoln Center"
A gathering open to the public - no speeches. no live performances, just Lou's voice, guitar music & songs - playing the recordings selected by his family and friends.
The Paul Milstein Pool & Terrace at Lincoln Center
